Estimating Stormwater Infiltration and Canopy Interception for Street Tree Pits in Manhattan, New York

چکیده

Estimates of the amount stormwater captured by urban trees have focused on rainfall intercepted leaves and branches, while runoff that flows into a tree pit from surrounding sidewalk has not been well quantified. This study estimated infiltrates first calculating tributary drainage area drains to street pits varying widths slopes. With Manhattan, New York, as case study, used i-Tree software find for in infiltration greatly exceeded canopy interception, ratio 3 1: averaged 6842 L/yr, interception 2228 L/yr. The results contradict prior research asserted is primary means which provide control. also provides method calculate areas would improve estimates trees, highlighting dominant role played Infiltration 4221 L/yr width m 14774 10 m. 5607 slope 0.5% 18,383 10%.

Urban Tree Canopy and Asthma, Wheeze, Rhinitis, and Allergic Sensitization to Tree Pollen in a New York City Birth Cohort

BACKGROUND Urban landscape elements, particularly trees, have the potential to affect airflow, air quality, and production of aeroallergens. Several large-scale urban tree planting projects have sought to promote respiratory health, yet evidence linking tree cover to human health is limited. OBJECTIVES We sought to investigate the association of tree canopy cover with subsequent development o...

Hydrologic Model Developed for Stormwater Infiltration Practices

Rain garden (RG) has been developed and applied to low-impact designs for the purpose of water quality enhancement. A RG consists of a surface storage basin and subsurface infiltrating layers. The storage basin is designed to be shallow, flat, and wide with an overtopping weir to pass excessive flows, while the subsurface infiltrating system is composed of two layers of filtering media. The upp...

The Spectra of Manhattan Street Networks

The multidimensional Manhattan street networks constitute a family of digraphs with many interesting properties, such as vertex symmetry (in fact they are Cayley digraphs), easy routing, Hamiltonicity, and modular structure. From the known structural properties of these digraphs, we determine their spectra, which always contain the spectra of hypercubes. In particular, in the standard (two-dime...

Toward better practices in infiltration regulations for urban stormwater management

Infiltration of runoff at the plot-scale is increasingly considered as an effective tool to improve urban water management. As a consequence, authorities in different countries adopt regulations prescribing the infiltration of stormwater in new developments. Here we apply a simple sizing procedure for plotscale infiltration facilities to examine the consequences, in terms of implementation, of ...
